A Gentle Guide to Understanding Emotions
Do you sometimes feel like emotions are too strong, too overwhelming, hard to understand?
This illustrated guide was created for children and adults who feel everything more deeply. Highly sensitive, neurodivergent, gifted children… but also anyone who recognizes themselves in this way of experiencing the world.
A book for those who experience their emotions like powerful waves — sometimes overwhelming, yet also revealing a deep inner richness. A book for parents, loved ones, and educators too — to better understand, support, and connect.
The Extraordinary Children explores 20 core emotions: joy, anger, fear, sadness… For each emotion: an illustration, a poem, a text to support neurodivergent individuals, and another to help those around them understand.
It can be read in one sitting… or one emotion at a time, depending on what you need in the moment. To be read alone, together, as a family, at school, or in therapy.
Illustrations to Help Understand the Emotions of Highly Sensitive Children
Some children experience the world intensely — they feel more deeply, think differently. They are often called atypical, highly sensitive, gifted… but above all, they are rich, profound, and radiant beings.
Through my illustrations, I try to capture their inner world — often quiet, yet deeply alive. Each piece is an outstretched hand, a gaze that says, “I see you.”
These illustrations around high sensitivity are a gentle way to honor those who are not always understood, yet have so much to offer. Portraits that invite us to feel more, listen more deeply, and love more fully.
